back from vacation in bc! w000! pics coming soon… and i know i’ve said that before so here they are to show you i’m good for my word:

this nes themed xbox (aka: nesbox) was a gift for my girlfriend jess (who’s a big nes fan), its specs are pretty much the same as mine (minus the paint job)

its a 1.2 box softmodded using uxe (slightly oldschool for you ndure kids) and running an xbmc dash. no hardware mods except a 160gb hdd preloaded with the top 50 movies from imdb as well as nes, snes, n64, and genesis emus and roms.

i’m thinking about installing an internal wireless access point as she doesnt have ethernet running down her stairwell… but i’ll save that for later. i didnt put it in my own box as it somewhat clashes with my personal dislike for wireless home networking.

pictures of the nesbox:

Nice box, it looks like you really payed close attention to the painting details. What mods do you have done on it? Mines got a 200gb hdd upgrade, 12v fan mod (had some heat issues…), Xenium ice chip, 1.6b box, ultra DMA/ATA cable (I’ve benchmarked the difference, and the impact of this mod is surprising), samsung drive with pot tweak, controller usb-port mod (mouse/kb), and of course upgraded thermal grease to arctic silver. If you haven’t upgraded the ATA ribbon cables, I’d highly recommend doing so, game load times are noticeably increased, the mod is extremely easy to do, and the cable on costs a couple bucks if you don’t already have one laying around.

i updated the post with that box’s specs.

my personal box is a loud-on-start 1.0 using the same softmod and same hdd. it has one of those firmware-flashed pc dvd drives in it that has theoretically faster speeds… i dont really notice a difference, all of my games are on hdd anyway. i just got it cuz the shitty dvd was broke when i bought it.

your tip on the better ribbon cable for boosting hdd speed intrigues me… what kind of performance increase did your benchmarking show?
